Donna Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Massie Funeral Home on Oct. 30, 2025.
She was born on December 2, 1957, in Mounds, Illinois, to Alfred Wilson and Earnestine
(Young) Meeks, raised by stepfather Carl "Big Win" Meeks and was the third of four children.
Early in life, Dee Dee embraced her faith, confessing a belief in Christ and attending St. Paul
AME Church with her family in Mounds.
Dee Dee was educated in the Mounds Public Schools, where she was an athlete, distinguishing
herself on the basketball and softball teams. After her schooling, she took a leap of faith, moving
to East St. Louis with her sister and spending the next several years working in the floral shop
with Henry and Devra. She left East St. Louis to visit a friend down in Memphis, Tennessee
where she would go on to stay and build a vibrant new life for herself. It was in Memphis that
she found community and welcomed her cherished son, Steven, into the world in 1991. Dee
Dee went on to join Bethlehem Missionary Baptist church and dedicated many years to the
catering and hospitality industries, later working in the warehouse at McKesson pharmaceutical
company until her health declined.
Dee Dee was a woman who truly knew how to enjoy life. She loved having a spirited time with
family and friends, which often included dancing, savoring good food, and catching up on her
favorite show, Law & Order.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, grandmother, aunt, stepbrother and her
beloved brother, Stevie.
Dee Dee leaves a legacy of precious memories to be cherished by her family and many friends,
including her only son Steven and God Daughter Mary Williams. She is also survived by her two
loving sisters: Devra Edwards of Memphis, TN, and Onesia F. Young (Cina) of Mounds, IL. She
is also survived by her aunt, Genelle Eanes of Madison, WI; two stepbrothers, Carletos, and
Don; and one stepsister, Karen. Her memory will live on through her five nieces: Nicole, Tonia,
A'Jonae, MarQuisha, Krishawn; nine nephews: Hank, Dashawn, Carlos, Cameron, Devari,
Jeremy, Jeremiah, Jayden, and Kendrick, Ethan; and cousins: Sheila, Paula, Lamont, Craig,
Cornell, Karl, Darlene, Rita, Taryea, Joe, Mike, Ricky, and Malcom. Also her memories will live
on through her God children and great-grand which they called her TT Dee Dee: Laniya, Mone',

friends, Vernetta, Jenette, Monda, Derrick, Odell, Janice, A.J., and a host of other relatives and

Praying for and with family and friends of "Dee Dee." Praying God's care, comfort, and compassion for all.
I'll always remember her affectionate and caring personality that was also bubbly and stern at the same time. I remember Dee Dee's hospitality, showing me around the flower shop and around East St. Louis, which included Church on Sunday. Also, the few weeks she spent with us at our apartment in Madison, Wisconsin back in the 70s. "Precious Memories, Oh How They Linger."
Praise God for the memories!
We pray, we cry, we smile, we laugh and pray again Eternal Blessings "Dee Dee"
