He was a painter.
He was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on September 28, 1955, the son of the late James Orville "Red" McClanahan and Bessie Auldy Slone McClanahan.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry McClanahan and Tommy McClanahan.
He is survived by his wife, Lou Ella Howard McClanahan, three sons, David McClanahan (Misty) of Pikeville, Kentucky, Donnie McClanahan of Ivel, Kentucky and Edward Allen Meadows (Sheryl) of Pikeville, Kentucky; one brother, Ronnie McClanahan (Rebecca) of Floyd County and one sister, Kathy Bishop (Dewey) of Pikeville, Kentucky.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Shelia Meadows, Alison Meadows, Desiree McClanahan, Destiney McClanahan, Daelynn McClanahan, Donnie McClanahan III, Ashton McClanahan, Bentley Akers and Bailey Akers and eight great-grandchildren, Hunter Scott, Madison Scott, Bentley Scott, Emma Hatfield, Kolt Thacker, Lilly Thacker, Kade Thacker and Laney Thacker.
Visitation will be in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel after 6:00 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 2025, with evening services at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2025, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Shad McClanahan officiating, visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon. Burial will be held Privately.

Donnie was a dear dear friend of mine we worked together and also along with his wife Lou both were hard workers! He was always so sweet and nice and had such high respect to others until you made him mad lol Lou was was the love of his life and he was hers too!! I´ll see ya soon ole friend wait for me by the river I love you brother!
