Donnie "Don" L. Scheffel, 81, of Bethalto, passed away peacefully at 9:23 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at his home.
He was born on March 6, 1944, in Wood River, IL, he was the son of the late Lavern and Dorothy (Carroll) Scheffel.
Don was a graduate of Wood River High School and a devoted member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
On August 3, 1963, he married the love of his life, Jacqualyn "Jackie" Jackson, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville, IL. She survives.
Don was a dedicated businessman who owned and operated Knowles Ford and later concluded his career at Tri-Ford Inc. in Alhambra. He was a man of simple joys, and especially loved watching A Christmas Story during the holidays.
Don is survived by his three sons: Michael Scheffel of Edwardsville, IL; Brian (Lisa) Scheffel of Alton, IL; and Shannon (Karen) Scheffel of Bethalto, IL. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Danielle (Keith) Brueggeman, Natalie (Nate) Taul, Ashley (Tommy) Moslander, Samantha (Landon ) Godar, and Austin (Morgan Henkhaus) Scheffel, as well as two great-grandchildren, Logan Scheffel and Adalyn Taul.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Betty Jackson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Fr. Steve Pohlman celebrant.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
