Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service - Third Street ChapelDonovan Miner Dickie, age 95, of Waseca, was welcomed home to heaven on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, joyfully reunited with his beloved wife, Rita M. Dickie, and his youngest son, Todd Dickie. With his family gathered around him, he passed in peace and comfort at home.
Don, the son of Russell and Aletha (Miner) Dickie, was born on April 28, 1930, in Waterville, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work and dedication. He attended St. Peter High School, where he earned 1st place in the 1947 and 1948 Regional Track and Field Championships. During his senior year, he set a new meet record of 53.1 in the 440-yard dash, graduating in 1948.
While in school, he met the love of his life, Rita—affectionately known to him as “Smooches.” They were united in marriage on July 2, 1950.
Throughout his life, Don was truly a jack of all trades. He worked as a police officer, realtor broker, insurance agent, mail carrier, and everyday handyman—just to name a few.
Don was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa. He loved golf and playing cards, but what he cherished most of all was his family, whom he loved unconditionally.
Don is survived by his sons Mark, Jeff (Jackie), and Kevin (Cindy) Dickie, all of Waseca; his daughter Jane Dickie of Manly, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings Ross, Gene, and Janet; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Rita, his son Todd, his oldest brother Keith, Sister Wilma Lee and his parents.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church, with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church. A luncheon will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Waseca Legion. A private burial will be held at a later date.
