With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished and beloved mother, Dora Cantu. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 12, 2025 at the age of 91. She was born on September 18, 1933 in Villa Union, Coahuila, Mexico. She married the love of her life, Eugenio Cantu, on February 22, 1955 and their union lasted for more than 67 years. Dora was a devoted wife and mother and together they raised seven children. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Queen of Peace Catholic Church, where she volunteered for many years as a member of The Guadalupe Society.Dora was a homemaker, the majority of her adult life, and also enjoyed several hobbies. Her passion was gardening, where she found peace and solace among her plants and flowers, meticulously tending to them with care and love that were ultimately admired by many. Her faithful and beloved dog, Payaso, was always by her side. She also loved and adored her 3 cockatiel birds. Her other hobbies included sewing and making beautiful and detailed quilts. She enjoyed socializing and was known for her ability to connect with people and effortlessly make friends everywhere she went. These connections resulted in many decades long friendships.She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her children Elsa (Richard) Laing, George (Cathy) Cantu, Norma (Guy) Glavich, Joe (Maria) Cantu, Aracelia Kent, Sylvia Kohanski and Luis (Liz) Cantu, her grandchildren Gabriel Cantu, Brandi Massey, Brian Laing, Hunter and Mackenzie Kent, Kimberley Riley, Kevin Cantu, Courtney Dalton, Ryan and Bryce Kohanski and several great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugenio Cantu, her brothers Manuel, Luis and Armando Matamoros.Visitation will be Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. followed by Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St Mary's Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery, Brownwood, Texas. Pallbearers will be her beloved grandsons Gabriel Cantu, Brian Laing, Hunter Kent, Kevin Cantu, Ryan and Bryce Kohanski.Mom, while your physical presence may no longer be here, we will always carry your memory in our hearts.
