Dora Duran Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - West Military Dr. on Mar. 6, 2026.
After living a life of abundant love for her family, friends and Catholic faith, Dora Duran, 88, joined the Lord and her beloved husband, Luis, on March 5, 2026. Throughout her life, Dora embodied the virtues of faith, servitude, kindness, and generosity.

Born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, on May 12, 1937, Dora came to the U.S. as a teenager and took a job at La Gloria Supermarket. After just a few months, she caught the eye of a handsome young man named Luis. Thus, their love story began. They were married in 1957 and enjoyed a loving marriage for 56 years, welcoming five children, until Luis' death in 2013.

Dora's work ethic was unparalleled, with a career that spanned seven decades. She started in the grocery business and later transitioned to sales, an occupation for which she was a natural, working at various wholesale businesses, and finding her home at Labatt Foods. She enjoyed a 40-year career at Labatt, finally retiring at the young age of 85.

In retirement, Dora enjoyed traveling, shopping, and family time. Her cooking was legendary, with Sunday morning breakfasts with her adoring family, a favorite ritual.

Dora was a dedicated member of the St. John Berchmans Catholic Church community. Her commitment was evident in her service on the vigil team, finance committee, raffle ticket and bingo teams, as a pantry volunteer, and "cleaning God's house" as she would call her Saturday morning volunteer shifts.

Dora is survived by her five children: daughter Becky and husband Rick; son Luis Jr. and wife Elva; daughter Norma and husband Mark Sr.; daughter Rachel and husband Luis; son Roger and wife Irina. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Mark Jr. and wife Brenda; Jillian and husband Greg; Louis Edward and wife Carrie Jo; Joseph and wife Chelsea; Erica, Ricky, Jackie, Sarah, Emily, Grace, Jayden, Conner, and Caydence; and seven great grandchildren: Mackenzie, Makayla, Madelyn, Theo, Ryleigh, Jacob, and Jordan. Also left to cherish her memory are brothers Ignacio and Juan, sister-in-law Juanita, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dora was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Luis; sisters Elena and Cleotilde; and brother Candelario.

Dora leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith and unconditional love that will forever be cherished by all those who knew her.

Services will be held for Dora at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, 1147 Cupples Rd., San Antonio, TX 78226. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 16, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, March 17, at 10:00 a.m., followed by graveside services at San Fernando Cemetery No. 2.
