Miss. Tanis Gwen Duran, 68, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, daughter of the late Alex Joseph and Mable Roberts Faison, was born Saturday, December 7, 1957 in Halifax County, North Carolina. She passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026 at her residence in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina surrounded by her loving family.

She received her education from the Halifax County School System, graduating from Northwest High School in June 1975. She went on to start a lifelong career as an administrative professional at Halifax Memorial Hospital (now ECU Health North) for 15 years, and later with Halifax County Health Department where she retired after 25 years of service in 2022.

Tanis dedicated her life as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in Atlanta, Georgia in July 1973. She went on to serve Jehovah faithfully for over 52 years. She was well known for her quiet strength, unwavering faith, and warm encouraging words to all she came across. Along with serving Jehovah and sharing her faith, her other most cherished role was being a mother to her three girls. She looked forward to her new role as a grandmother to her first grandchild, Nathan, due this summer 2026.

Preceding her in death are her parents: Alex and Mable Faison; her nephews: Travis Faison and Brandon Cherry; and her great-niece: Kyomi Ragland.

She is survived by her daughters: Shanita Duran, Sharita Duran, and Christina Kester (Randell); her siblings: Aleck Faison, Columbus Faison (Jacqueline), Juanita Jones (Vernon), Kenneth Faison (Barbara), Brenda Faison, and Katie Demery (Tyrone); Aunt Dollie Roberts; and host of cherished nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and a large spiritual family worldwide.

A graveside service will be held for Miss. Tanis Gwen Duran, on Friday, March 6, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM at Crestview Memorial Cemetery, 489 Smith Church Road, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina 27870.
