Maria Duran Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Best Funeral Services Phoenix on Mar. 8, 2026.
Hilda Maria Duran, known affectionately to all as Wena, was a beacon of joy and creativity who lived a life full of passion and laughter. Born on December 27, 1959, in the vibrant city of Tucson, Arizona, she brought light and love into the world, a light that continued to shine brightly until her peaceful passing in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 3, 2026. Hilda's journey was one marked by the love of family, a deep-seated faith, and an unwavering enthusiasm for life's simple pleasures. She was a devoted mother to Michael Carrasco and Olivia Marie Henniger, and a loving grandmother to Gabriella, Michaela, Dominique, Desiree, Chrsitian Jr., and Kerian who will carry the torch of her vibrant spirit forward. Born to Refugio and Hilda Duran, she was one of a large family that included her siblings Mary (Ed) Wade, Maria, Joe (Kristi), Juanita, Norma, Richard (Pearl), Maryann, Debbie, Steve, and Michael (Christina). Each family gathering was a testament to the love and laughter they all shared, with Hilda often at the center, cracking jokes and leading the dance. Her educational pursuits at Phoenix College allowed her to explore creativity through interior design and her love for communication through American Sign Language. Her career with the City of Phoenix Finance Department was characterized by the same dedication and vibrancy she brought to every aspect of her life. Her colleagues knew her as the heart of the office, always ready with a smile and a word of encouragement. Hilda's faith was her guiding light, providing strength and comfort throughout her life's journey. She lived her beliefs through acts of kindness and an open heart, welcoming all who crossed her path. Hilda's interests were as diverse as they were engaging. She was an avid thrifter, always on the hunt for hidden treasures. Bingo nights were a joyous occasion, filled with laughter and camaraderie. Her love for sports was unwavering, especially for the University of Arizona, whose games she rarely missed. Hilda also took pleasure in dancing, letting the music move her in a celebration of the moment. Her competitive spirit shone through in softball games and while running 5k's, where she not only challenged herself but inspired others to push their limits. Describing Hilda in a few words would be to say she was funny, spirited, and creative. Her humor was a gift that kept her loved ones smiling even through the toughest times. Her spirit was a force that propelled her through life's challenges with grace and resilience. Her creativity was a wellspring that colored her world and the lives of those around her with beauty and imagination. To speak of Hilda is to speak of life itself-vibrant, beautiful, and filled with endless possibilities. As a motivational speaker inspires others to reach for their dreams, Hilda's life serves as a testament to the power of positivity and love. Let us carry forward her legacy by living each day to the fullest. Embracing our passions and cherishing our loved ones. Hilda may have left this earth but her spirit dances on, a melody of hope and joy that will echo in the hearts of those who knew her forever. She is loved and will forever be missed.
