Dora Ellen Huffman, 84, was born into this world April 29, 1939, in Provo, Arkansas. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized in 1961. She was faithfully married to her devoted husband, Harvey, for 67 years. During her life, she lovingly served her Lord, family, friends, and church family at Sunset Acres / Springs of Grace Baptist Church. She never had to be asked to serve. She served everywhere she knew there was a need. She did nothing for her own glory, but always for the glory of her Lord. Her infectious joy drew people to her, and that allowed her to share what was most important to her, her Lord Jesus Christ. She shared the gospel message as much by her actions as she did by her words. On her last day, someone told her how much she was loved, and though she had not been responsive, she said … “...love Him more.” While those who knew her will miss her, they also have great joy through the hope she has through her Savior Jesus Christ.
Dora is survived by her husband, Harvey; her children: daughters, Mary Abel and husband, Andy, and Teresa Huffman; son, Michael Huffman and wife, Kim; grandchildren: Alicia Abel Adamson, Jason Abel, Ryan Huffman, John Huffman, and Amelia Huffman; nine great-grandchildren; brothers: Otis Sherman Jr., Windell Sherman, Kenneth Sherman, Alton Sherman; and numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Odus and Inez Sherman; three brothers and one sister.
A memorial service to honor Dora's life will take place on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Springs of Grace Baptist Church, located at 6300 Hearne Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana. This will be preceded by a private family graveside service at Forest Park West Cemetery. Prior to the memorial, friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath South, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, LA 71118. The service will be officiated by Rev. Jeff Segner and Rev. Grant Rose.
Honoring Dora as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jason Abel, Ryan Huffman, John Huffman, and great-grandsons, Chase Morris, Grayson Abel, and Granger Abel.
