Dora Wilder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shannon Funeral Service - Shelbyville on Mar. 12, 2026.
Yearning - a feeling of intense longing for something. Mom yearned for her heavenly home and went there on March 11, 2026. She was greeted by her Lord and Savior, her husband Daniel, and her grandson Timothy Daniel, along with other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were never met this side of heaven.

Dora Lee Hawkins Wilder was born on September 28, 1935, to Frank and Eilene Elizabeth Hawkins. She married Daniel Wilder on September 19, they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children, Carolyn Wilder, Lisa Meers (Ron), and Gene Wilder, who survives her. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brittany Veech (Chris), Chad Meers (Kacie), Emma Carter (Philip) three great-granddaughters, Delaney Veech, Whitley Veech, Heidi Meers and one great-grandson, Harrison Carter.

Mom worked at American Air Filter and Investor's Heritage Insurance Company and retired from the Legislative Research Commission.

Her retirement years were spent in their garden, weeding, harvesting, and caring for her flower beds, especially zinnias! She and Dad enjoyed day trips with their Sunday School class, traveling to different spots around the state. She had a servant's heart, and one of her greatest joys was cooking for others. She loved filling the table with family, friends, and sometimes folks she had never even met until they showed up at her door. She's famous for her homemade fudge and pies, carefully made with black walnuts that Dad would harvest each year from the farm. She even took care of the birds, filling feeders with seed and boiling sugar water each spring for the hummingbirds. She never met a stranger and was quick to offer a smile and a hug to everyone.

It's difficult to convey in a few paragraphs the life well-lived by someone. The dash between the years is so significant to those who are left behind to cherish their memories. The main thing we wish to share about our Mom is that she loved God, loved people, and made an unimaginable contribution to the Kingdom. She would want you to know the Lord and accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior today, so you can spend eternity in heaven, too. She will be greatly missed, but we cannot wait to see you again, Mom…

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2026 at Shannon Funeral Home. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial is at Simpsonville Masonic Cemetery in Simpsonville, Kentucky.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to Camp Calvary Christian Assembly, 475 Camp Calvary Lane, Mackville, KY 40040.
