Doran Shepherd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones Funeral Chapel Inc on Mar. 30, 2026.
Doran Wayne "Deputy Dogg" Shepherd, age 83, of Morgantown, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, March 27, 2026. He was born on October 4, 1942, in Butler County, Kentucky, and lived a life marked by hard work, faith, and devotion to his family and friends.

Doran was a man who carried himself with quiet strength and steady purpose. He was intelligent, wise, and handy, and those qualities were reflected in the way he approached both work and everyday life.

He was saved and baptized in the faith of the Church of Christ, and his belief in God was an important part of his life.

Doran was a loyal union worker with Laborers Local #1392 from 1970 up until he retired in 1999. He took pride in his work and in being part of a labor tradition that valued dedication and integrity. His work ethic was strong, and he was respected for his commitment and reliability.

In his spare time, Doran enjoyed attending auctions, and he had a special interest in tractors and cars. These interests brought him enjoyment and gave him opportunities to connect with others who shared his appreciation for machinery, craftsmanship, and the stories behind well-loved things. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and found happiness in the things that reflected his practical and curious nature.

Doran was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel L. and Iva Amos Shepherd; his wife, Anna M. Johnson Shepherd; his son-in-law, Patrick Mitchell; seven brothers; and three sisters. Their memories remained a part of his life, and he carried the love of his family with him always.

He is survived by his three children, Steven Shepherd and his wife Amber, Daniel Shepherd, and Ivah Mitchell, all of Morgantown, Kentucky. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Tayor Jared and William, Paige Shepherd, Daniel Ray Shepherd, Heather Miller and Joey, and Dylan W. Shepherd; and his great-grandchildren, William Jared, Bennett Jared, Axel Bedel, Remington Jared, Kyralynne Mitchell, Laynie Bedel, Katana Mitchell, and Noelle Anne Shepherd. He is also survived by his sister, Colleen White of Paducah, Kentucky; his sister-in-law, Jerlene Wilkerson of Roundhill, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and his friend Jody.

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 12:00 pm with Bro. Danny Tarrance officiating. Burial will be in the Minton Cemetery where Ivah Mitchell, Steven and Daniel Shepherd, William Jared, Will Jared, Daniel Ray and Dylan W. Shepherd will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 4:00pm-7:00pm and Wednesday 8:00am until funeral time at 12:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hosparus 3532 Ephraim McDowell Dr Louisville, KY 40205-3224.
