FARMINGDALE - Doreen Joyce Stevenson, age 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at her home in Farmingdale, Maine, surrounded by her family.
Doreen was born on May 4, 1935, in Coventry, England, to Albert and Peggy Jaynes, and grew up in Solihull, England, where she attended a private girls' school. Doreen was proudly British, and her English roots, traditions, and faith remained an important part of who she was throughout her life. She was previously married to Alan R. (Robin) Stevenson for 30 years. Though later divorced, they shared many years together. Doreen was the loving mother of Heather Longfellow of Farmingdale, Maine, and Andrew Stevenson.
She is also survived by her beloved brother, John Jaynes. She was a cherished grandmother to Hailey Morrison, Konnor, Charlotte, Bryce, Jack, and Ethan Longfellow, and a proud great-grandmother to Elizabeth, Henry, Alice, and James Morrison. Her favorite son-in-law is Bill Longfellow. Her favorite role in life was being "Nana." Known lovingly as Nana Longfellow by the Longfellow family, she treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the joy of her life, and she will be deeply missed by them all.
Before marriage, Doreen worked as a secretary and later devoted herself fully to her family as a homemaker. A woman of deep and abiding faith, she served as a sexton at St. Mary's Church in Lapworth, England, and was also a member of the choir. Her faith, rooted in the Church of England, guided her throughout her life. Doreen loved to travel and especially enjoyed visiting family in Switzerland. She took great pride in her beautiful gardens at the Clerk's House, and she found comfort in her English friends and enjoyed knitting, often creating thoughtful pieces for those she loved.
She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Peggy Jaynes, her former husband Robin Stevenson, and her son Andrew Stevenson.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Granite Hill Church in Hallowell, Maine. Visiting hours will be held at 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM.
Doreen's life was one of faith, service, love, and devotion to family. Her gentle spirit and steadfast belief will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
One of Doreen's favorite Bible verses was from John 14:2:
"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
