Doretta Zander’s Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Westside Funeral Home - Palmetto on Jan. 16, 2025.
Doretta Teresa Zanders, affectionately known as "Tee,"
entered this world on Thursday, May 28, 1959, in Bradenton,
Florida. She was the second child of six children of the late Mary
Purdy Carnes Conners and the late Ernest Carnes, Sr. On Tuesday
afternoon, December 31, 2024, at her home, Doretta went to be
with the Master and joined her family who had gone before her.
Doretta received her education in Manatee County and graduated
from Bayshore High School in Bradenton, Florida, in June of 1977.
Upon completing high school, she began working in Customer
Service as an Assistance Manager. During this time, Doretta went
on to higher education at Manatee Community College and earned
an associate's degree in business administration. Doretta used her
degree to move forward in the banking industry. She worked for
several banks and investment companies in Sarasota, Florida,
Beachwood, Ohio, and Cleveland, Ohio. Doretta was working at
PNC Bank until medical issues forced her into retirement several
years ago.
Tee always had a direct look on her face, a loving spirit, kind heart,
a smile with an open gold tooth that lit up a room, and care for
others. She displayed absolute attention and genuine interest in
others. She was open to offering a listening ear and her opinion,
whether you wanted it or not. Tee was reserved, but be prepared
for her blunt honesty if you wanted to know her thoughts. Tee
enjoyed helping others and sharing her knowledge of banking and
investments with others.
Those that preceded her in death include Emma Jane Smith, Mary
Purdy Carnes Conners, Ernest Carnes, Sr., Albert Carnes, Elodis
"Plucky" Platt, and Earnestine "Penny" Carnes Colson.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories and celebrate her life,
love, and joy: her husband, William Zanders, Sr., of Cleveland,
OH; her only biological child, Lakisha "Shawn" Zanders-Curry
(Talmadge "Tiki" Jr.) of Palmetto, FL; granddaughter, Zylah
T. Curry; six bonus children that she loved very much, Connie
Ashe of Faunsdale, AL, Chris Bolden of Tuscaloosa, AL, Susan
Huckabee of Cleveland, OH, Lorenzo Fields of The Villages, FL,
William Zanders, Jr., of Brandenton, FL, and M. Lynette Zanders-
