Obituary of Doris Jeanne Alvarez

Doris Jeanne "Jeanne" Alvarez (née Huffman), born October 8, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Though her given name was Doris, she preferred to go by Jeanne, and that is how she was known to nearly everyone who loved her. She was the daughter of Raymond Huffman, Jr. and Doris Luella (Thorn) Huffman.

Jeanne's life was marked by creativity, resilience, and a deep dedication to her family. She was previously married to Martin John Visser, with whom she raised her four children, and later married Ignacio "Al" Alvarez, her love and companion in her later years.

She is survived by her children: Martin Jon Visser, Richard Scott Visser, Daniel Ray Visser, and Nancy Jean (Visser) Barrett. Jeanne was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom cherished her warmth, her sense of humor, and her unwavering support.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her brother Robert Ray Huffman, and is survived by her younger brother, William Richard Huffman.

An artist at heart, Jeanne found joy in countless forms of arts and crafts. She was a talented seamstress who created clothing, costumes, and handmade treasures for her children and grandchildren, putting love into every stitch. Although she used her sewing skills throughout her life, her work always held the most meaning when it was for her family.

To support her children, Jeanne worked in many different fields over the years. She held positions as a restaurant hostess, newspaper delivery driver, telephone switchboard operator, and property manager-roles she carried out with determination, adaptability, and a strong work ethic. No matter the job, she always gave her best so her family could thrive.

Jeanne also had a lifelong fascination with aviation. She once dreamed of becoming a flight attendant and proudly earned her private pilot license-an achievement that reflected her determination and adventurous spirit. Although health challenges prevented her from continuing to fly, she carried that sense of wonder throughout her life.

Her Love, Her Faith, and Her Spirit

Jeanne had a tender heart for animals, especially dogs. Her last companion, Cori, was a loyal and loving presence who brought her comfort and daily joy. Their bond was a special light in her final years.

Her faith in Christ was a quiet but steady foundation. She carried her beliefs with humility and grace, finding comfort, strength, and purpose in her relationship with God. Her faith shaped the way she treated others-with kindness, forgiveness, and a genuine desire to lift those around her.

Above all, Jeanne was known for her eternal optimism. Even in difficult moments, she had an extraordinary ability to find the good, encourage others, and greet each day with hope. Her joy was contagious, and she leaves behind a legacy of positivity that continues to inspire her family.

Those who knew Jeanne will remember her as someone always cheerful, endlessly encouraging, and happiest when surrounded by her family. Her kindness, creativity, and radiant presence leave a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Her family will honor her life in a private gathering.
