Doris Mae Anderson, 94, passed away Friday, January 16,2026 in Phoenix, Arizona. Doris and her husband Bill moved to Phoenix in 2011 to be close to their daughter Sandy and her husband, Ernesto. Doris was born on November 17, 1931, in Meadville, PA and graduated from Meadville High School in 1949. She attended Allegheny College in Meadville prior to marrying her long-time sweetheart Bill Anderson in 1953. They started their lives together and were blessed with three daughters, Susan, Sandra and Leslie. As an Air Force wife, Doris spent the early years of her marriage caring for their daughters and volunteering at the Air Force Base to which they were assigned. After 13 moves and 10 different states, Bill retired from the Air Force in 1981. Doris and Bill settled in Abilene, Texas where they had lived for several years. Doris took up the hobby of cross stitching and spent many hours creating beautiful pieces of art. A hobby Doris shared with her daughter Susan and many great friends. She also enjoyed gardening and loved spending time planting and enjoying her flowers. Doris was also an avid animal lover and had a special fondness for cats.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Luella Trace, husband Bill, and daughter Susan Lynn. Keeping her in their fondest memories are her daughters, Sandy (Ernesto) Salazar of Phoenix, Arizona, and Leslie (Ted) Grillo of Jupiter, Florida; grandchildren, Chris (Ann) Huber of Eugene Oregan, Rachel (Nick) Charamis of Jupiter, Florida and Jessica (Matt) Sturcken of Phoenix; son-in-law, Richard Huber of Mesa, brother, Howard Trace of Greensboro, N.C.; 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 26 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Burial followed the service at the National Veterans Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona where she was reunited with her loving husband.
