Doris Avant Obituary
Doris Nell Avant, also known as Dot peacefully passed away on December 22, 2023, in Portland, Texas at the age of 96. She was born on July 5, 1927 in O’Donnell, Texas. Dot was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Dot is survived by her loving son, Charles E. Avant Jr., and his wife Gayla of Portland, Texas; her daughter, Vicki A. Krebs and her husband David of Portland, Texas. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Erik Avant and his wife Christina of Lott, Texas, Matthew Krebs, Jeffrey Krebs and his wife Kayla of Portland, Texas; and her great-grandchildren, Halee and Cody Avant of Lott, Texas, Jaxon, Rylee, Emalynn, Juliette, and Nicolette Krebs of Portland. Dot is also survived by her brother, James Lowrie, his wife Loretta of San Antonio; her brother-in-law, Bill Baldwin; and her sister-in-law, Wanda Lowrie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Avant Sr., brothers and sisters: J.A., Dud, R.F., Jake, Bill, Lenore, Minnie, Tommie, Naomi, Alma, Lois and Mattie Sue.
Dot had a fulfilling career working as an operator for General Telephone in Taft, Texas and later as PBX operator for Swantner & Gordon Insurance in Corpus Christi.
Dot found solace and community in her faith. She was a member of Morgan Avenue Baptist in Corpus Christi and later became a member of 1st Baptist Church in Portland, Texas.
Visitation for Dot will take place at Winsteads’ Funeral Home located at 500 Wildcat, Portland, Texas, on December 28, 2023 from 5-7pm.
The funeral service will be held at Winsteads’ Funeral Home on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 10am. Dot will be laid to rest in Gregory Cemetery. Following the burial, a reception will be held at 1st Baptist Church in Portland.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to 1st Baptist Church in Portland, Texas.
Dot will always be remembered for her kind heart, love for her family, and her unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
