Doris Marie Barko

Doris Marie Barko (nee Bell), 100, of Berlin, NJ passed away on November 25, 2025. Beloved daughter of the late Charles H. and Alma J. Bell (nee Tompkins). Loving wife of the late Harry A. Barko. Devoted mother of Cheryl B. Pickering (Charles) and Harry A. Barko (Margaret). Proud grandmother of Wallace B. Pickering, Scott A. Pickering, Katie P. Miskey, Sharon Bernson, Stephanie Barko, David Barko and many great grandchildren.
Doris grew up in the Frankfort section of Philadelphia and was the youngest of four siblings. After high school, she joined the United States Marine Corps and became a Sergeant. After moving to NJ she worked from home as a court reporter. She then went to work for several physicians and started the Edgewood Hospital which later became West Jersey and now Virtua in Berlin, NJ. After obtaining her degree in Medical Record Science she became the Director of Medical Records in Berlin and Voorhees as well as Pennsylvania Hospital. Doris was also very involved in the Berlin Borough community and became secretary of the zoning and planning board and coordinator for the aging. She would take the seniors on trips every week and was instrumental in getting them a bus that would take them to Shop Rite every week.
This past June, Doris celebrated her 100th Birthday where she was honored by her family, Berlin Borough Council, The US Marine Corps and many friends. She even made the Channel 6 Evening News.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Saturday, November 29, 2025 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the COSTANTINO-PRIMO FUNERAL HOME, 231 W. White Horse Pike Berlin, NJ. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00AM. Interment with military honors to follow in Berlin Cemetery, 40 Clementon Road, Berlin, NJ. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Trinity Bible Church, 115 S. Main Street, Glassboro, NJ 08028 where she was a member.
