Doris Bartels passed away at the age of 94 in her home in Carver, MA.
Doris graduated as a nurse from Quincy City Hospital in 1948 and was a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. During the early years of her career she worked as a staff nurse at Quincy Hospital and South Shore Hospital. For many years she did Public Health Nursing and later School Nursing in the Pembroke school system in order to have the flexibility to raise her family. When she moved to Florida she worked as an office nurse for a family practice and volunteered at the South Venice Friendship Center as a nurse in the clinic for the uninsured. Since returning to MA she volunteered at the Marshfield Council on Aging.
Doris was the beloved wife of the late James Bartels. She leaves her two children Janelle Miller and James (Susan) Bartels. She also leaves 5 grandchildren; Megan Seever, Julie Rosa, Jacqueline Barrett, Abigail Young and James Bartels Jr. She was Gigi to 8 great grands; Liam Young, Charlotte Barrett, Lily Barrett, Benjamin Wozniak, Ali Rosa, Lilah Young, Lilliana Seever and Emmalina Seever. Being a mother, grandmother and Gigi (great grandmother) was one of the most important parts of Doris's life, a role that gave her much pride and joy. She was supportive, kind, loving, and witty and we will all miss her dearly. Her favorite phrase for all was "I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck."
Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Doris has requested you please consider making a donation in her honor to NEADS World Class Service Dogs by mailing a check to: NEADS, Inc. P.O. Box 1100, Princeton, MA 01541 or online by visiting https://neads.org/
