Our loving mother and sister, Doris Jane Lewis (Bearfield), was called home to her Heavenly Father on May 30, 2025, at the age of 74.

Doris was born May 17, 1951, in Fresno California to Leonard Cagle and Barbara Panter (Johnson). She attended Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho where she met the love of her life, George Russell Lewis. They knew they were each other's soul mates and were engaged in less than a week. Shortly after he was deployed in the Vietnam War but they both patiently waited for their reunion so they could be married and joined as one. They were married February 3, 1973, in Fresno California. Sadly, their time was cut short when he passed away on October 21, 1979. Doris and Russell were able to be sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 11, 1980, for time all eternity. We know he has been patiently waiting for her in heaven for their loving reunion.

Doris met Jim Bearfield and they were married on July 10, 1981. Out of their relationship they were able to adopt a baby girl, Megan, fulfilling her dream of becoming a mom. While he left 6 months later leaving Doris to raise her daughter alone, she never lost hope and began her life as a single mother. She would always say everything happens for a reason, and the reason for that marriage was for that baby girl.

Doris worked many years at Hill Air Force Base in Clearfield Utah. She obtained a master's degree in computer technology with University of Phoenix allowing her to continue to advance in her career until she was able to retire. Quilting was her passion, hobby, and therapy in her down time. She found joy and charity in it, often making baby blankets for many of the new moms she’d meet.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Megan (Tyler) Shinney, sisters Linda Sellers and Lois (Wes) Matheson, and her sweet basset, Sadie, who kept her up and moving in her senior years. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, George Russell Lewis, her mother, Barbara Panter (Johnson), her father, Leonard Cagle, and brother-in-law Dan Sellers.

We will all miss Doris greatly as she was a shining light in our lives. We know she is now at peace, pain free, with a clear mind, and reunited with her true love.

We would like to thank all of those on her care team including Dr. Seth Lewis, Enhabit Hospice, and the amazing people at Cogir at Lotus Park for making her last bit of time on this earth the best it could be. We would also like to thank the Ricker and Powell families for their continuous support, assistance, and love during Doris’s time of need. We’d also love to thank her sister, Linda Sellers, for opening her home and caring for Doris the last couple years.

Visitation services will be held at City View Mortuary, 1001 E 11th Ave. Salt Lake City Utah 84103, on June 6, 2025, at 10am MST, followed by a memorial service at the same location. The memorial service will also be broadcast via Zoom at the link below for those who are unable to attend.

In lieu of flowers, live as Doris would have and always pay it forward to those in need. You never know when a good deed can change a life forever.
