Doris Benson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grandstrand Funeral Home & Cremation Service - North Branch on Jan. 6, 2025.
Virginia Benson, born in Marlow, Oklahoma on September 7, 1929, went to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus on January 4, 2025, in North Branch Minnesota, she was 95 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie Benson; her daughters Debbie Jechorek & LeAnn Brickey; son in law Corky Jechorek; her parents William Charles Jones, Ruby Jewell Bussell, Her siblings Charles Leon Jones, Buck Virl Jones, Loretta Jean Jones Mcaffee, Stanford Willis Wade Jr, Gloria June Wade Martin, Melba Jane Wade, Amanda Delores Eubanks Philpott, niece Leona Jones Testerman and her beloved puppies Tina & Mitzie.
Virginia lived a long and prosperous life. She always loved her home state of Oklahoma and recalled many fond childhood memories there, despite difficult familial circumstances. She spent several years in the orphanage where she learned the importance of hard work and making do. Married at 20 to Leslie Benson on December 9th 1949, their life together was one of perpetual motion. Moving more than 100 times during their life together, Virginia was adept at making any place feel like home. They put down roots everywhere and made life-long friends through their local churches, where they were always involved, and hosting game nights. Together they enjoyed traveling the world and they had the stories and slides to prove it.
Virginia was a woman of resolute faith and hope deferred. Having survived both of her daughters and her husband, she patiently abided her time here on earth until the day she would be reunited with them in Heaven. She was quick to share her faith with others, as well as her opinion on anything and everything. Her door was always open, and she would always stop what she was doing to catch up – unless, of course, her soaps were on. In addition to her daily soaps and playing cards (and nagging Les about his sugar intake), she took pleasure in reading poetry, especially that of her favorite author, Edgar A. Guest.
Virginia is survived by her grandson Brian Jechorek and his four children, Tyler, Trevor, Alexis and Riley; her son-in-law Joe (Michelle) Brickey; her granddaughter Jill (Bryant) Hottel and her daughter, Adelaide; her grandson Stephen Brickey and his children, Hunter and Evelyn; her niece, Robin (Joseph) Mullen, her daughter, Cassandra (Michael) Alexander, and her granddaughters, Viviene, Mathilda and Maeva; and her nephew Dale Jones. Her niece Linda Jones Thatcher and her children Michelle Rozzell, Gregory Thatcher, & Mason Thatcher. Her niece Patricia Ann Watkins and her son Christopher Price. Virginia and Les were married for nearly 72 years before his passing in 2021. It is not hard to imagine him welcoming her to their heavenly home just as he remarked the first time he saw her, "Wowee-wow-wow!" They are now reunited for all eternity.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Bethesda Church (38181 Hemingway Ave.) in North Branch. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday.
