Gilbert C. Stenberg

Gilbert C. Stenberg, age 86, of Amery, Wisconsin, was peacefully called home by God on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Christian Community Homes in Osceola, Wisconsin, with family by his side.

Gilbert-known to many as Gib-was born on April 24, 1939, to Carl and Mabel (Thomas) Stenberg. He grew up and attended school in Stillwater, Minnesota. Following school, Gib proudly served in the United States Coast Guard. He later met and married JoEllen Olson, and together they raised two children, Lyn and Steve.

Gib spent more than four decades working in the trucking industry. Most of those years were spent as an over-the-road driver traveling throughout Minnesota, Illinois, and Colorado, and delivering freight and gasoline throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

In 1999, Gib was blessed to marry JoAnne Rosenthal and lovingly embraced her children, Charles (Chuck) Rosenthal and Elsa Lillo.

Gib enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, dirt track and drag racing, cutting and splitting wood, and making maple syrup. Above all, his greatest joy was watching and hearing about the adventures of his grandchildren. He took pride in their many interests, including hockey, volleyball, softball, lacrosse, dance, music, work, hunting, and fishing. Gib loved them all deeply.

Gib was preceded in death by his daughter Lyn; JoEllen and JoAnne; and his brothers Jim and Tom. He is survived by Steve (Rebecca); Chuck (Dawn); Elsa; siblings Kay, Bette, David and Sue, and Mary; 18 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and numerous dear friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, February 1 at 3:00 p.m. at Hope Evangelical Free Church (933 248th Street, Osceola, Wisconsin 54020). Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 p.m.
