Doris Bickham Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Phillips Funeral Service on Oct. 10, 2024.
Doris June Bickham, 90, of Ada, passed away peacefully the morning of October 9, 2024 surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born on June 12, 1934 in Glenfield, Pennsylvania to her parents George William Miller and Glady's Alma (Puckett) Miller. In her youth, she met the love of her life Gordon Calvin Bickham, and started a life together that you normally only hear about in a fairytale. They were married in Ft. Collins, Colorado and they shared their life together for sixty-three beautiful years, and traveled internationally for thirty-eight of those years. She was very dedicated to her husband, and happily followed him to Africa at the young age of twenty-two. It was this journey that not only sparked her passion for cooking, it is where it also began. George had asked Doris to make him a cup of coffee, and she incidentally had to look for a recipe for coffee in a cookbook. From this, Doris became a renowned self taught master home cook, best known for fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, apricot fried pies, bread and her holiday pies. She also found joy in all genres of music, dancing and racquetball, but most of all she found the greatest joy in her family.
She cherished and adored their three children, Ava, Gaye, and Robyn, as well as her grandchildren LeAmber, Cally, Nina, Natalie, Melodie, John Calvin, Rob and Keeslar. She lived to love and enjoy her great-grandchildren Savannah, Brandon, Preston, Rachel, Madison, Eleese, Frank, June, Ray-Jay, Janie, Blue, Hank, Jack, Sam, Wilson, Paris and Paige, and her great-great grandchildren Leigh Amber, Brooklyn, and Aliyah. Doris lived for her family, and her legacy will continue to live on through each and every one of them. She will be dearly missed by all of those blessed to have met her.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents George and Glady's Miller, her siblings Bill Miller, Evelyn Sye, and Lois Poe, her grand-daughter LeAmber June, and her husband Gordon Calvin Bickham.
Doris is survived by her daughters Ava Lee Bickham, Gaye Lynn Markowitz, and Sheree Robyn Stover, her seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, her nephew Scott Poe, her niece Susan Cartmell, and many more nieces and nephews.
