Doris Brady Obituary

Doris High Brady, age 87, of the Ware Retirement Village, Oxford, PA, formerly of North East, MD, passed away on December 19, 2025.

Doris was born in Baltimore, MD, on June 30, 1938, the daughter of Louis F. and Ethel Horney High, and was brought up in Bel Air, MD. She graduated from Bel Air High School in 1956 and Douglas College, the Women's Division of Rutgers University, NJ, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960. She furthered her education at Rutgers, earning a Master's degree in Library Science in 1962.

Also in 1962, Doris started her career in the Cataloging Department of the McKelden Library at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD. In 1966, she accepted a Librarian position at the Nuclear Defense Laboratory, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. She first met her future husband, Bob Brady, while at the nuclear labs, but lost track of him when, in 1969, she moved to a new Librarian position with the Ballistics Research Laboratory in a different part of the Proving Ground. In 1980, she transferred to the Foreign Intelligence Division of the Test and Evaluation Command Headquarters, also at the Proving Ground, retiring from that position in 1986.

Doris met Bob again in 1970 when he transferred to the same area of the Proving Ground. They were married on July 15, 1972, and moved to North East, MD., where they lived for some 33 years.

After retiring from the Proving Ground, Doris changed careers, graduating from the Barbizon Major Modeling School in 1986. She continued to work for Barbizon as a runway and print model for several years, being selected in 1987 to teach the Major Modeling Course in addition to her modeling assignments. She taught the course for many years, working especially with young people, until her second retirement in 1998.

Doris took an interest in the theater arts and, in 1993, became a volunteer at the Covered Bridge Theater Company at Cecil College in North East, MD. Over the years, she worked on building sets, was a Stage Hand, Usher, Back Stage Manager, House Manager, and took on many other tasks. She was awarded the "Stoney" Award as Volunteer of the Year for the 1995-96 season. Doris also became interested in acting and appeared at the Theater in such plays as "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Inherit the Wind".

Along with her husband, Bob, she was a member of the Classic Yacht Club of America and a Life Member of the North East River Yacht Club. Their big interest and joy was "Night Hawk", their 1966 classic 38' Chris Craft Cabin Cruiser, which they owned for 30 years. During those years, they and their two Persian cats cruised extensively on the Chesapeake Bay. They also participated in numerous classic and wooden boat competitions, winning 28 awards, including several Best in Show Awards.

In 2005, Doris and Bob moved from their home in North East, MD., to the Ware Presbyterian Retirement Village in Oxford, PA.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Brady, her brother-in-law, William S. Brady, and his wife Claire. She is survived by, her sister-in-law, Gwendolyn B. Stanley, of Wichita, KS, eight nieces and nephews, and fifteen great nieces and nephews.

Interment will be private.
