Doris Brock Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 20, 2023.
Doris Hilda Thomas Brock, 88, lately of Concord, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on August 18, 2023, passing peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Doris was born on April 25, 1935, in Olive Branch, NC, to Henry Benton and Irene (Helms) Thomas. After graduating from Marshville High School, she moved to Charlotte, NC, and worked for American Bank and Trust as a securities analyst clerk and as a bookkeeper for Walter J. Klein advertising agency. She married Robert Nelson Brock of Charlotte in August of 1954. They moved their family to Jacksonville, FL, in 1962.
Doris graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Jacksonville University while raising her three children. She began her graduate work at "J U," before moving to Monroe, NC, in 1973. She completed her Master's program at UNC Charlotte. Doris began teaching in Jacksonville, then spent the majority of her 30-year career at Sun Valley Middle School in Indian Trail, NC, where she was awarded "Teacher of the Year." She belonged to several professional organizations. One of her proudest accomplishments was becoming a member of the MENSA academic society.
Doris will always be remembered for her quick wit, graciousness, generosity, and love of nature. She had a fondness for Native Americans, supporting St. Joseph's Indian School in South Dakota, among many other charities, on a regular basis. She loved playing bridge and going to the movies, particularly those starring Paul Newman or Elizabeth Taylor. She also liked big band and rock 'n' roll music, especially as delivered by Fats Domino.
Doris is survived by her three children: Tom Brock (Julia) of Concord, NC, Janice Brock Mazzo (Jimmy) of Ridgewood, NJ, and Stuart Brock (Michelle) of China Grove, NC; six grandchildren: Kelsey, Malia, Cara, Aaron, Lena, and Jake; two great-grandchildren: Emery and Ellis; two sisters: Helen Thomas Griffin of Marshville, NC, and Sylvia Thomas Allen (Craig) of Monroe, NC; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Diana.
After a private funeral service for the family, Doris was interred next to Diana at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC. May she rest in peace for the Lord's return.
The family would like to thank Concord Place Senior Living and Atrium Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for their skilled and loving care for Doris over the past several months.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Alzheimer's research (www.alz.org) or to St. Joseph's Indian School (www.stjo.org).
