Kay Huang Braman

Kay H. Braman, 90, died peacefully on July 13, 2025, in Charlotte, NC.

Born on March 23, 1935, in Taipei, Taiwan, Kay was raised in a large family with six siblings and many nieces and nephews whom she maintained close bonds with all her life. She met her husband of 58 years while she was working at the American Embassy and moved to the United States in 1964. As an Air Force family, she and her husband Marv raised two daughters in the Washington, D.C. area and in Hawaii. Following Marv's Air Force career, they moved to New Hampshire and later retired in Williamsburg, VA. Kay was a woman of remarkable energy, love of life and an endless desire to learn. She spoke four languages, was an avid reader and gardener, traveled the world with Marv and always felt at home during their extended visits to Hawaii. Her passion for staying physically active was evident throughout her life - she began running in her 40s, learned to cross country ski in her 50s, hiked the New Hampshire mountains in her 60s and continued to exercise daily through her 90th birthday.

Kay was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her tireless energy to help others will be dearly missed. Her greatest joy came from time spent with family, especially her four grandsons and the special connection she had with each of them.

Kay is survived by her daughter Christina (Tom) Traub; grandsons Ethan and Jason Traub and Jack and Ford Lyons; sister Toshi (Darrell) Rivers and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Huang Chiu Kuei and Huang Lin Ku, her beloved husband Marv, daughter Jennifer Lyons, brother Eugene Huang and sisters Su Zhen Shea, Su Shen Pan, Su Shing Lien and Terry Louy.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC on August 1st beginning at 10:45 am. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will follow at a future date.
