Doris Louise Summers Butler, age 85, a longtime resident of Mobile, AL

passed away on January 26, 2024.

She grew up in Richton and Sandhill area of Mississippi. Her family moved to Mobile, AL where she graduated from Murphy High School in 1957. She married Rufus Clayton "RC" Butler in 1957. One of her first jobs was at Ross Jewelers in downtown Mobile. This perhaps sparked her appreciation of jewelry. Before she retired, she worked as a key punch operator for Teledyne.

She has been described as unique, both in style and personality. She loved the Lord and family, both were considered top priority. She enjoyed cooking especially for loved ones. She briefly dabbled as an artist. Her most well known talent was music. Unable to afford traditional piano lessons, she taught herself to play using shape notes that represented the "DO RE MI FA SOL LA TI DO" that she learned at their church sponsored singing schools. The results, she was able to play beautifully with a style all her own. She will definitely be missed.

She was preceded in death by, her husband, Elder R.C. Butler, mother, Bertran Summers, father, Carlie Summers, brother, Simon Summers.

She is survived by, daughter, Tammie (John) Jenkins of Mobile, AL, sister, Gracie (Melvin) Moody of Wilmer, AL, grandson, Sloan (Karson) Jenkins of Mobile, AL, great-grandson, Clayton Paul Jenkins of Mobile, AL, several very special nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
