Doris Irene Chapman-Combs, age 93 of Marion, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026.
Doris was born December 4, 1932 in
Wilkesville, Ohio, the daughter of the late James and Iva May (Clark) Montgomery. The family moved to Marion when Doris was 3 years old. She received her education in Claridon and graduated from high school in 1950.
Doris was united in marriage to Glenn "Jake" Andrew Chapman in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1979. In 1985 she was united in marriage to James Carrol Combs on December 6th, he preceded her in death in 2018.
Doris was a hard worker and began her career in food service at the age of 16 as a waitress and then served as a vending attendant until her retirement in 2000.
Doris joined the Waldo Pythian Sister Lodge #600 in 1955; she went through all subornate officers then Grand Temple and became the Grand Chief of Ohio from 1994-1995; from there she went to Tuscan, Arizona becoming the Past Supreme Representative. As Grand Chief, Doris traveled over 10,000 miles that year for the Order. She was a 25 year Grange Member, charter member of Waldo Sportsman Club Auxiliary and the first president. She also belonged to the Onawa of Delaware, OH, Nomads Averduka #119, Tallmadge Hall, and Ohio Society.
She served her community as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader serving as Central Committee Chairman in her precinct for 2 terms. For over 50years she worked as the presiding judge or judge for the board of elections.
Doris enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as cake decorating, sewing, cooking or enjoying a great game of euchre with friends and family. She especially loved babysitting the twins from birth until kindergarten. She has said that she "may not have had everything she wanted, but had everything she needed".
She is survived by her devoted daughters: Victoria Jean Lowe, Christine Ann Moore, and Judy Lynn Chapman; grandchildren: Brandy S. (Josh) Edwards and Glenn I. Lowe; great-grandchildren: Aubrie N. Fassler, Mikayla N. Fassler, Hailey L. Lowe, and Emily R. Lowe; step-grandchildren: Heather, Jeremy, and Logan Combs; and great-great grandson Hudson Fassler.
Doris is preceded in death by her husbands: Glenn Chapman and James Combs; her son Dana Andrew Chapman; step-sons: James Craig Combs and Daniel Carrol Combs; grandson Jason R. Moore; brothers: Carl, James C., and Richard E. Montgomery and her sister Marcella Mulvaine.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2026 at Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel, 360 East Center St. Marion from 4PM to 6:30PM – Pythian Sisters service will follow at 6:30PM; Funeral service will be Saturday at the funeral home at 10AM with Dale Sipe officiating; burial will be in Claridon Cemetery.
