Doris Capps Colbert, 84, of Colonial Heights, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Braxton Colbert, Jr., her parents, Charlie and Rosa Capps, and many beloved brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Carla Temple (Derrick), granddaughter, Danielle Cummins (Joey), grandson, David 'Braxton' Bookman (Ashley), two great-granddaughters, Kailie and Kenlie Bookman, two great-grandsons, Logan and Dylan Cummins, her brother, Charlie Capps, numerous nieces and nephews, and two dear caregivers and friends, Shelia Crump and Kathy Rice. Doris, the second youngest of a group of 11 siblings, was born on August 23, 1939 in Vance County, NC. She was then raised on the family farm in Lawrenceville, VA. Above all, she followed the Lord and loved her family fiercely. She moved to the Richmond area for business school where she met her future husband, "Teenie". After becoming a widow in her 20s, she leaned heavily on God to give her the strength to provide for her family, abundantly, throughout her years. She retired from SECOR Fort Lee in 1990 as a budget analyst and, again, in 2017 from John Tyler Community College as a buyer in the purchasing department. In later years, her great-grandchildren were a bright light and a source of joy in her life; she loved each one of them so very well. Her family continues to recognize the profound impact she has had in each of their lives; none would be where they are without her unwavering love and support. They hope to honor her legacy by being an example of her faithfulness and selflessness for future generations (Philippians 2:3-4). She was most recently a member of The Heights Baptist Church. Doris loved, and was loved, greatly throughout her days on earth and her friends and family look forward to that beautiful day of reunion in heaven.
