Born on July 16, 1926, in Bancroft, NE, Doris was the beloved daughter of Floyd "Fritz" and Pearl (Hogan) Worth. She was the oldest of 4 children, having 3 younger brothers: Floyd Jr. "Sonny", Larry, and Stanley. She spent her early years on a ranch near O'Neill, NE, where the values of hard work and community were instilled in her, shaped by the land her father and his brothers farmed with dedication. In 1936, her family moved to Dalton, where Doris would continue to blossom into the bright and compassionate woman so many came to cherish.
Doris attended Meadow Lawn School and later graduated as valedictorian of Dalton High School in 1943, a testament to her intelligence and determination. Even while still in school, the world called upon her strength: during the war, she was selected to work at the Sioux Army Depot during her final semester. She then pursued studies at Grand Island Business College and soon after worked at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant in Wahoo, helping with the war effort until its closure on VE Day in 1945. On August 4, 1945, Doris married the love of her life, James "Jim" Dickes, while he was on leave from serving in World War II. Together, they made their home in
Sidney, Nebraska, where they built a life grounded in faith, hard work, and unconditional love. A woman of many talents, Doris worked at Bauerkemper Motor Clinic before becoming manager of the Peetz Cooperative Tele-phone Company in 1969, a position she held with pride until her retirement in 1993. Through her professional life, Doris was respected not only for her capability but for the warmth and integrity she brought to everything she did. Doris was a devoted member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she served faithfully through the Altar Society. She also contributed her time to the VFW Auxiliary, always honoring the sacrifices of others with grace and gratitude. But above all, Doris's heart be-longed to her family.
She was the proud and loving mother of four children: Michael "Mick", Teresa "Teri" and her husband Ray Kuehn, Brenda and her husband Greg Gertge, and Crystal. Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her cherished grandchildren: Sean, Nicole, Toni, Trent, Jonathan, Eric, and Teagan - each one a shining light in her life. She poured her love into them without reserve, attending every milestone she could and offering wisdom and warmth that will be remembered forever. She is blessed with 19 great-grand kids, and 11 great-great-grand kids.
Doris's life was one of quiet strength, selfless service, and deep love. She carried herself with dignity and grace, touched countless lives with her gentle spirit, and left an indelible imprint on the hearts of those lucky enough to know her. She now joins those who went before her, resting in eternal peace she so richly deserves. Her family and friends will continue to honor her legacy through the stories they share, when cheering on her beloved Broncos and Nuggets, the monster cookies they try to duplicate, and the tradition of the cherished Santa's made with endless love. She was - and will always be - deeply loved.
