Philip W. Dickes, 91, of Huntertown, passed away September 30, 2022, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 18, 1931, in Perry Township to the late Carl B. and Donna E. (Myers) Dickes. He spent his formative years in Perry Township and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1949. He then went to Michigan State University and earned a bachelor's degree in Animal Husbandry in 1953. Philip was married to Charlene M. Smith on December 23, 1950, in Huntertown. He worked for I&M Electric Company in Fort Wayne and also in Kendallville for 37 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Huntertown United Methodist Church, Huntertown Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Mizpah Shrine, and Fort Wayne Scottish Rite. He loved to play golf and was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his retirement, he enjoyed driving the van for Shriners to take kids to their doctor appointments in Chicago and Cincinnati. Philip is survived by his wife of 71 years, Charlene Dickes; a niece, Debra Dickes; three nephews, Duane (Sue), Darryl (Laura), and David (Susan) Dickes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Dickes. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, with calling one hour prior to the service. The family will also receive family and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
