James "Jim" Blessing

James H. Blessing, known affectionately by many as Jim, passed away on December 7, 2023. Born in Allen County, Indiana, on October 28, 1934, he spent his formative years in Arcola and graduated from Huntertown High School. He was married on August 13, 1955, to Barbara Gump, she preceeding him in death in 2006. James was a beloved member of his community, devotedly serving in Allen County Maintenance as part of the county's workforce until his retirement. James was a man of simple pleasures, who loved being outdoors, working on his yard, and enjoyed occasional visits to casinos. He was an ardent fan of IU sports, a passion that formed an integral part of his life. James is survived by his three children; Donald Blessing, Gregory Blessing, and Brenda Blessing. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Douglas Blessing and Delvia (Dewitt) Blessing; his wife, Barbara Blessing; his brothers, Leroy Blessing and Robert Blessing, and his stepbrother, Richard Dewitt. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, located at 16830 Lima Road, Huntertown, with calling beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the Huntertown Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Avilla Legion or Parkview Packnett Family Cancer Institute. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
