Doris M. Duke

Doris Mae "Dee" Duke, a cherished matriarch, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, in Ashland, KY. Born on March 16, 1940, in Lewisburg, PA, Doris's infectious laughter and unwavering kindness significantly impacted those around her throughout her 85 years.

A proud graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School in 1958, Doris went on to become a respected Enrolled IRS Agent, dedicating many years as a tax preparer for H&R Block in Flatwoods. Her meticulous nature and friendly demeanor made her not only excellent at her job but also a favorite among her clients and colleagues.

Doris was the loving mother of James David "Jim" Duke and his wife Jeanne of Milford, OH, Kevin T. Duke and his wife Kimberly of Ironton, OH, and daughter Kimberly K. Duke of Flatwoods, KY. She was the adored sister of Kay Simpson of Bradenton, FL. Her legacy extends to her cherished grandchildren Joshua J. Duke, Brandon L. Duke (Hannah), Aaron B. Duke (Faryn), Jada N. Duke, Camryn Duke, and great-grandchildren Brayden, Aubrey, Mason, Liam, Waylon Duke, Aliyah Rankin, A.J. Rankin, and Graylyn Allen. Doris was the treasured aunt of nephews Scott and Steven Simpson, and she leaves behind a host of extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents Golie Hall and Mayme Pearl Thomas Wade, her husband David W. Duke, her brothers Foy Wade and T.D. Wade, and her brother-in-law Tim Simpson. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones and will continue to feel her presence in their hearts and memories.

Known for her humorous spirit, Doris, or "Dee" as she was affectionately known, never failed to bring joy and laughter to those around her. Her kindness and friendly nature made her a beloved figure in her community. She had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and cherished, and her home was often filled with the sounds of merriment and the warmth of companionship.

Above all, Doris loved being with her family and neighbors. She created a home that was not just a place of residence but a hub of love, support, and togetherness. Her interests, though varied, always circled back to the simple pleasures of spending time with her loved ones, sharing stories, and making memories.

As we bid farewell to Doris Mae Duke, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a woman dearly loved. Her spirit, characterized by humor, kindness, and friendliness, will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her. Doris's life is a testament to the enduring power of love and the profound impact one person can have on so many. She will be profoundly missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.

Funeral services will be held 4:00pm Sunday, March 1, 2026 at the STEEN FUNERAL HOME CENTRAL AVENUE CHAPEL.

Visitation will be prior to services on Sunday, beginning at 2:00pm.

Burial will take place 1:00pm Monday, at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
