Doris Eddins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home - Huntsville on Dec. 11, 2025.
Born in Bowie, Texas on June 11, 1933, Doris Marie (Sanders) Eddins, went to her Heavenly Father's home on December 11, 2025. Doris was baptized in 1933 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bowie, where her father served as a pastor. On September 11, 1945, she was confirmed at St. Matthew in Westfield.

While working at Central Freight Lines in Houston during 1952, Doris met Robert "Shorty" Lindel Eddins. A courtship began and they were married on January 16, 1953 at St. Matthew. Doris and Shorty lived briefly in Houston, and then moved to El Paso while Shorty was serving in the Army. During that time, they welcomed their first daughter. After Shorty's discharge in 1955, they returned to Houston where two more daughters and their son were born. Doris was a longtime resident of Houston, moving to Huntsville in the early 1980's. Most recently she was living at Creekside Long-Term Care Center and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church at the time of her death.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert Shorty Lindel Eddins; parents Reverend Erwin Henry and Sophie Elizabeth (Preuninger) Sanders; sister Lois Naomi Sanders Theis; brothers-in-law Reverend Alvin Musgrove and William "Buzz" Loeschman; nieces Suzan Elizabeth Musgrove Doty and Tanya Denise Theis; along with great-nieces Lindsay Rae Erhing and Hannah Marie Kaspar.

There were five Sanders sisters, with Doris being the oldest. She is survived by Elva Janyce Musgrove of Cypress; Barbara Ann Kasper of Huntsville; and, Quinta Roberta Loeschman of Angleton; also, her brothers-in-law Reverend Donald Kaspar of Huntsville, and Wayne Theis of Angleton.

Doris is also survived by her children: Linda Gail Baker and husband Ray of Huntsville; Cheryl Ann Smith and husband Dan of Elgin; Phyliss Dianne Eddins of Kingwood; and, Robert Wayne Eddins and wife Sherrye of Spring; grandchildren Jennifer Upton Baker of Huntsville and Donald Robert Smith of Austin; along with great granddaughter Sara Fortin Petzold and husband Austin of Rockport.

Some of Doris' most favorite people included nieces and nephews from the Musgrove Family – Celeste, Colette, and Jeffrey; the Kaspar Family – Michael, Amy, Brian and Rachel; the Theis Family – Greg and Jonathan; and, also Matt Loeschman. Numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, plus their offspring, were often a topic of conversation that Doris loved to share.

Her faith, family and friends gave her great comfort and joy. A Celebration of Life service for Doris will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Faith Lutheran Church located in Huntsville, Texas. Visitation with the family begins at 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM. The family invites you to join us afterward for food and fellowship in celebration of a life well lived.
