Doris Ann Edwards, age 94, of Bridgehampton, New York passed peacefully at home on February 24, 2025. She was born on September 21, 1930, to Madeline Schenck Edwards and Arnold "Pete" Edwards. Doris resided in Bridgehampton for most of her life.
After her graduation from Bridgehampton High School in 1946, Doris attended Becker Junior College and briefly lived in Castle Rock, Colorado before returning home to care for family. Throughout her long career, Doris' strong work ethic shone at several automotive dealerships in Southampton and East Hampton.
Dot, as she was known to her family and friends, enjoyed quiet acts of service. She spent her post retirement years caring for the elderly in the community for many years, often helping them by running errands, taking them to the store, or just spending time with them. She volunteered at the Bridgehampton Community Food Pantry, and was a lifelong member of the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, an elder, and a member of the church's historic restoration and preservation committee for 25 years. As a child she would accompany her father to the steeple to ring the bell. It is rumored you can still find her initials carved there.
Quick-witted, Dot's laughter was unmistakable. Her family will remember the joy she found in shared time and shared meals as she retold stories about childhood in Bridgehampton; especially the 1938 hurricane that fell on her 8th birthday and prevented her from riding her new bicycle to school.
Aunt Dot is survived by her nephews Thomas Edwards of Raleigh, North Carolina, Alan Peckenpaugh of Trumansburg, New York and niece Jayne (Peckenpaugh) Moller of Prince Frederick, Maryland. She is also survived by her great nephews and nieces Cole, Hunter, and Owen Edwards of Raleigh, North Carolina; Abigail and Kristian Moller of Prince Frederick, Maryland; and Kacy Peckenpaugh of Ogden, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Thomas Edwards, sister Jean (Edwards) Peckenpaugh, and nephew Lee Peckenpaugh.
Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Doris, please visit our floral store.
