Doris H. Fallon, of Philadelphia, passed away on January 22nd at the age of 94. She was the loving wife of the late William J. for 31 years and caring mother to Doris F. Snyder (James), William D. (Dianne), David W. (Cheri), Susan Fallon, and Christine Kelly (Thomas).
Doris will also be greatly missed by her 13 grandchildren; Mary Kate, Christina (Richard), Bill (Kristina), Joanne (John), David (Jacquie), Megan, Kelly, Louie (Caitie), Steven (Melissa), the late Aidan, Brigit (Christian), Caroline, and Joseph, as well as her 15 great-grandchildren; Declan, Luke, Regina, Olivia, Scarlet, John, Addison, Frank, Mason, Logan, Brianna, Avelyn, Lilith, Canon, and Nolan.
Doris was born and raised, with her brother William P. Meier, in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia. She was a proud graduate of St. Henry's and Little Flower High School for Girls; class of 1948. She had a special devotion to St. Therese of the Little Flower. She also loved St. Katherine Drexel, whom she met when she was young!
On Doris's 16th birthday, she met her future husband, Bill, at a party and they began a life together shortly after. She and Bill would go on to buy a home in the Oxford Circle neighborhood where they raised their children.
Doris was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was involved with the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a talented amateur seamstress, always mending and making her children's clothes and dolls clothes (Susie still has some of them). She was famous for her Christmas cookies which took all of December to bake, package, and deliver, a tradition that she continued with her grandchildren at Gloria Dei Estates. Another one of her talents was crocheting and she inspired her children and grandchildren to follow in her footsteps. And we certainly can't forget about her "green thumb"! Mom loved her plants. Her poinsettias lasted until the next Christmas!
After raising her children, Doris worked at Penn Mutual Insurance Company in Philadelphia and Horsham. She loved her job and proudly worked for Penn Mutual until her retirement. She then sold the Fallon Family house and moved to Gloria Dei Estates where she resided for 25 years. She was one of the original residents. Doris volunteered in the coffee shop selling coffee, baked goods, and making hot dogs. She was also the "stats checker" for her floor. Doris was also a famous card-shark, competing every week with her fellow residents, as well as playing with and beating her children and grandchildren. Also in her retirement, Doris became an avid world traveler. Her favorite destinations were Alaska and the Panama Canal. She often traveled with her long-time high school friends. They called themselves the Golden Girls. She was Rose (Betty White) and it fit her to a tee, even the hairstyle.
Relatives and friends are invited to Doris' Life Celebration visitation on Saturday 2/1 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church from 930AM-1015AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:15AM; interment at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris' memory to Little Flower High School for Girls would be greatly appreciated.
