Doris Jean (Will) Goebel, 85 passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Heart to Heart Hospice Center in Evansville.
She was born April 30, 1938 in St. Wendel, IN to Sylvester J. Sr. and Ida (Niemeier) Will. She graduated from St. Wendel grade school.
Doris worked on the family dairy farm. Doris went on to marry Virgil J. Goebel in 1957.
Her main interest in work was raising domestic and exotic animals. She was among the first person in Indiana to raise llamas and also raised bears. Her llamas were displayed at Mesker park Zoo and her deer at Santa Claus Land.
She most recently worked as a meat processer at Holiday Foods.
Doris was an active 4-H leader and member of the Vanderburgh County Board for over 40 years.
She was described as a hard worker and was very kind.
Preceding her death were her parents, her husband, Virgil and 1 sister, Joyce Rexing.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Linda Gail Goebel of Haubstadt; 3 grandchildren, Casandra Abbott, Andrew "AJ" Abbott and Josh Titzer. 6 great-grandchildren: Kaydin, Payton, Cameron, Avery, Selia and Bradley.
2 sisters, Eileen Haase and Sharon (Don) Pohl.
3 brothers: Richard (Carol) Will, Sylvester Will, Jr. and Mike (Elaine) Will.
Several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Sunday, March 17 at Wade Funeral Home with a Rosary service beginning at 3:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian will be 10:00 AM Monday, March 18 at St. James Catholic Church with visitation being held from 9:00 AM until Mass time.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh County 4-H livestock improvement fund.
