Doris Koenig Obituary

Doris Mae Koenig, age 98, of Little Falls, MN, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025 at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls.

A memorial service to celebrate Doris' life will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Swanville, MN with visitation starting at 9:00 A.M. and a service at 11:00 A.M. Following the service, burial will take place at Springbrook Cemetery with lunch following at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or CHI Health At Home. Caring for Doris and her family is the LeMieur Funeral Home in Little Falls, MN.

Doris lived independently until a fall in her home caused injuries that required hospitalization and then admittance to the Care Center. Doris was born on August 9, 1926 to the late Fred and Effie (Mortenson) Beseman. She married Gordon Koenig on December 25, 1942. Together they farmed in Culdrum Township north of Swanville until 1982 and continued to reside on the farm until 2010, when they moved to Little Falls. During their time farming, Doris also worked at Munsingwear for 19 years and enjoyed the seamstress work and the companionship of her fellow employees. Doris' joys in life included fishing, card-playing, and travel. Her love for fishing developed early in childhood as she accompanied and assisted her grandparents on fishing outings to Pillsbury Lake. She enjoyed fishing with Gordon and with her sons. She also loved playing cards and did so until failing eyesight ended her play. She enjoyed travel, particularly trips with Gordon to Germany and Alaska. She also enjoyed traveling to her sons' homes to see them and enjoy the company of her grandchildren. In later years, having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit provided her with great joy. Doris also enjoyed the friendship, companionship, and assistance of special friends, Sandy Olson, Brenda Ganz, Brenda Schmitt, and Kayla Sobiech, and thanks them for their loving care.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Adella "Della" (Buehrer) Beseman; Gordon, her loving husband of 68 years; siblings, Richard (Nora) Beseman, Helen (Herman) Unger, Harvey (Marian) Beseman, Cyril Beseman and Joanne (Lawrence) Crumrine. She was also preceded in death by her nephew, Ronald Unger; and nieces, Ava Niggeman and Peggy Hartsock.

Survivors include her sons, Larry (Julie) Koenig of Crosslake, MN, Gary (Marcia) Koenig of Oconomowoc, WI, Mark (Sharon) Koenig of Broomfield, CO; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
