Doris Levings Obituary

Doris Jean Levings was born June 22, 1936, in Stockton, Missouri, to William Bert and Vernice (Fox) Cheek. She departed this life on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at her home in Peggs, Oklahoma, surrounded by her loving and devoted family. She was 89 years old.

Doris grew up and attended schools in Stockton, Missouri, and spent her teenage years in Ivanhoe, California. While living there, she met the love of her life, Reuel Levings. They were united in marriage on April 13, 1953, and were blessed with two children, Reuel Wayne and Donna Jean. The couple shared more than 69 years together before Reuel's passing on July 23, 2022.

After their marriage, Doris and Reuel made their home in Los Angeles, California. In 1959, when Reuel was called to be a minister of the Gospel of Christ, they moved to Ivanhoe, California, later spending time in the Bay Area before settling in Peggs, Oklahoma, in 1972.

Over the years, Doris worked at Prestolite in Wagoner, Red Devil in Pryor, and in the cafeteria at Peggs School, where she faithfully served the students for 20 years before retiring. A pastor's wife since 1959, she was deeply involved in ministry and a devoted member of Salina Assembly of God for more than 47 years, where she taught classes and worked with the Royal Rangers.

Doris was a faithful servant of the Lord and a loving matriarch to her family. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, going to flea markets, garage sales, and auctions, and helping at Crossroad Treasures in Wagoner, where she loved assisting her daughter with her booth each week. She was affectionately known by her children as a "Good ol' momma" and lovingly called "Old Woman" by her husband. Caring, compassionate, and deeply loved, she touched countless lives and will be greatly missed.

Doris is survived by: 1 son: Reuel Wayne Levings of Peggs, Oklahoma; 1 daughter: Donna Jean Scott of Peggs, Oklahoma; 1 brother: Bobby Ervin Cheek and wife Sharon of Ivanhoe, California; 1 sister-in-law: Wanda June Mayfield and husband Jim of Peggs, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren: Kyle Scott, Stacy Henington and husband Randy, Cody Scott and wife Erin, Bradley Levings, and Mark Levings and wife Charity; 11 great grandchildren: Dave Marshall and wife Jessica, Shane Scott, Ty Levings, Ryker Levings, Bobbi Jean Scott, Caleb Henington, Rachel Henington, Rynlee Levings, Brecklee Levings, Gary Davis, and Tyler Thompson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; 4 brothers: Billy Joe Cheek, Darrell Wayne Cheek, Wilburn Morris Cheek, and Kenneth Eugene Cheek; 4 sisters: Betty Sue Simpkins, Beulah Grace Keith, Mary Jewel Richards, and Zella Frances Gannaway; 1 brother-in-law: Walter Thomas Levings; 3 sisters-in-law: Betty Lou Levings, Dollie Lucille Hefner-Hutchinson, and Sarah Wilda Cook Bardesis Gulley; 1 son-in-law: Dewey Andrew Scott; and 1 daughter-in-law: Devora Jacobs.

Graveside services and interment will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 18, 2025 at New Home Cemetery near Peggs, Oklahoma. Brother Doug King and Sister Edna Kiddy will officiate. Services have been entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home. Memories, condolences, and tributes may be shared at www.locustgrovefuneralhome.com.
