Doris Mae Liggett, age 94, of Newton, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. Doris was born October 28, 1929 in Canton, Kansas to Henry and Pauline (Richert) Haas.

Doris was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandma and great-grandma. She married Walter Liggett on June 23, 1951 in Marion, Kansas, and the couple had two children together.

Doris was active in her church and ran an in home daycare for over 25 years. She led a very active lifestyle which included lady’s bible study, playing cards with family, eating out with family and shopping for bargains.

She is survived by her daughter, Linette Martin of Newton, Kansas; grandchildren, Lauren Jankord, Seth Jankord, Garrett Martin, Emily Herrman, Annia Martin, Justin Martin, Madalyn Tapia, LaKrista Liggett; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Jankord, Liam Jankord, Hudson Martin, Grayson Martin, Waylon Liggett-Stansbury, Keegan Herrman; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Pauline; husband, Walter Liggett; son, George Liggett; and siblings, Reuben Haas, Lillie Schlotthauer, Elsie Gerloch, Dorothy Helmer, Harvey Haas and Bernice Haas.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00-8:30 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 1, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at Meridian Baptist Church in Newton, Kansas, with Pastor Scott Kliewer officiating. 

Interment will follow at Whitewater Center Cemetery, 204 Timber Rd., Peabody, Kansas 66840.

Memorials are suggested to Meridian Baptist Church and Harry Hynes Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
