Doris Marso Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Osborne-Williams Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. on Jan. 19, 2026.
Doris Marso, born 12/22/1931 in Greenville, PA. Raised by her loving parents, Julia Hegedus and Albert Rowland, Doris and her family enjoyed summers on the lake in Canada, trips to Erie, and evenings listening to the radio by the fire. Doris married Gordon "Bud" Miller in 1949; she had 3 children: Linda Gregg, Dale Miller, and Ty Miller. She moved to California briefly in the early 60s, where she studied and taught yoga. Doris divorced Bud and decided to return to Greenville with her kids because she found the weather in California monotonous and missed the way the leaves changed back home.

After moving back to Greenville, a friend set her up on a blind date with a young Green Beret, Joseph Marso, who quickly became the love of her life. They married in 1965 and spent 60 wonderful years together. Doris and Joe bought a small cabin in the woods out near Atlantic, kept a thriving garden, and spent their weekends walking in the forest. A lover of animals, she always made sure to feed the birds, squirrels, and the bears that lived nearby. She also kept a few dogs and cats around for good measure.

Doris was always a person who loved a new challenge. She went back to school at the age of 49 to obtain her nursing license, graduating as an RN at 53. She spent the next 15 years working as a geriatric care nurse at St. Paul's Care Facility. Doris was passionate about elevating the standard of care for the seniors at the facility and helped shape what St. Paul's is today.

She found joy in the simple moments in life. Doris moved to East Greenville in 2020, where she quickly became the unofficial "neighborhood grandmother" to some of the local kids and took in the local stray cats. In 2025, she relocated to St. Paul's, where she was cared for by some of the people she helped train years before. She passed peacefully on December 30th, 2025, with her grandson and the nurses who cared for her by her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph Marso; children Linda, Dale, and Ty; as well as her sister Donna.

Doris charmed everyone who met her over the course of her long and richly joyful life. She is survived by her grandson, Parker Weinthal; granddaughter Kelsey Dale; her nieces, Karen Fry and Sharon Dunlap; and four great-grandchildren.

There will be no services. In memory of Doris, donations can be made to Stray Haven No Kill Shelter in Greenville.
