Mulhane Home For Funerals - MillburyOn October 16, 2025, Doris Y. Maynard of Shrewsbury and Grafton was called to be reunited with her husband Ernest (Ernie), family and friends. She passed away peacefully at Shrewsbury Nursing Home. Doris was 2 months shy of her 98th birthday.
Doris is survived by three sons and one daughter. Gary and his wife Jean of Oxford, Bruce and his partner Jo-Ann Pocius of North Grosvenordale, CT; Nancy Fleming and her husband Robert of Manchester CT and Daniel and his wife Birgit (Billy) of Independence Kentucky.
Doris also leaves behind 5 grandchildren – Gary and his wife Nicole, Sean and his wife Kealy, Brian and his partner Ashley, Christopher and his partner Hampton, Bill and his fiancé Bea.
Doris also leaves behind three cherished great grandchildren, Reid, Leighton and Colette. They meant the world to her affectionately calling her GG. Always enjoying their company and trying to get one “extra” hug. She also leaves behind her great grand-dog Waylon whom she was very fond of.
Doris also leaves behind two sisters, Dorothy Maynard of Auburn, whom she was very close to and Marie Pierce of Sutton. Doris and Dorothy always enjoyed Saturday afternoon mass and then dinner after. Their favorite place for many years was Val’s in Holden.
Doris also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by three brothers – Donald, Frances and Paul DeLorme.
Doris grew up in Worcester before moving to Grafton when she married Ernie. They built a new home and raised their family there. Doris continued to live in North Grafton after Ernie’s passing in 1995 until she moved to Southgate in Shrewsbury 7 years ago. She loved living at Southgate. She was a very classy fashionable well dressed woman. Her outfits always included necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Many times, while walking inside the complex or outside, she received compliments on her outfits. She enjoyed sitting in the sun when outside. Walking down to see the flowers at the gazebo was a favorite for her. Being a devout Catholic, she continued to go to Mass while at Southgate in the chapel each week.
Doris loved going to yard sales. She would go every weekend and buy things for her home, for all that “might like this”, and especially the kids. Always proud of the bargain she got. While at Southgate she continued with this by shopping at the “Bargain Box”, an inside yard sale!
One of her mottos was “I will never miss a party I am invited to” She enjoyed every function always being the center of attention. She was well loved by all around her. In later years when it was harder for her to get around, she still went to all events.
During her short stay at the nursing home, she attended every social function possible. She was known for her constant smile, kindness and politeness by residents and staff. She was especially close to her new friend Yvonne (and her daughter Val) who also grew up in the same area as she did off Hamilton Street. Yvonne is also Doris’s middle name. They always sat together at activities and meals.
Doris worked for many years at State Mutual in Worcester. She followed that for many years as a devoted mother and wife. Once her children were grown up, for fun she began working at Calvert’s, TJ Maxx and as a lunch lady at public schools.
Family and friends are invited to gathering for a time of calling hours on Thursday, Oct. 23rd from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 N. Main Street, Millbury.
Doris’s Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the church with burial in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
