Elkhart – Doris M. McFarren, 81, died Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Elkhart Hospital. She was born November 17, 1943 to Harold and Helen (Pollock) Straw in Goshen. On October 17, 1962 she married Jeffrey A. Vance in Augsburg, Germany where Jeff was stationed with the Army. They had three children, Valerie (Rick) Rodgers, Elkhart, Robert Allen, and James (Kristen) Vance, Elkhart. They divorced in 1969. She later married Dave McFarren. They were married from October 1972 until their divorce in 1983. Along with her children, she is survived by five grandchildren, Crystal (Justin) Connett and Stacey (Adam) Bueter, both of Elkhart, Amber (Kevin) Hadley, Sturgis, Michigan, Cody (Kristina) Vance Allenhurst, Georgia and Darren (Christi) Vance, Elkhart; and 11 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Lucas, Michael, Noah, Olivia, Carson, Katherine, Addilyn, Katelyn, Blair and Cael. One of eight children, Doris, is survived by three brothers, Duane, Phil and Lowell Straw. She was preceded in death by her parents, a stepmother, Elsie; one month old son, Robert, and siblings, Marilyn Keck, Sharon Allard, Roger, Ronald and Gerald Straw. Doris was a Nursing Assistant for many years. She loved to garden and do crafts. She also loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 3 p.m. until the 5 p.m. memorial service at Creekside Church of the Brethren, 60455 County Road 113, Elkhart, IN 46517. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Cleveland Clinic. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
