Doris Deborah Moss, age 91, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at her home in Jackson, MO, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 1, 1934, in Holland, MO to the late Daniel and Helen Thurmond Cope. On September 2, 1964, in Jackson, MO, she married Gerald Edwin Moss who preceded her in death on January 25, 2009. Before her retirement, Doris worked for Southwestern Bell and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Doris was of the Church of Christ faith and attended the Fruitland Church of Christ in Fruitland, MO. Survivors include her daughter, Gerri Reamer (Steve Ragland) of Chesterfield, MO; daughter-in-law, Terry Simpkins of Uniontown, MO; son, Gerald Edwin Moss, Jr. (Cathy) of Lafayette, LA; daughter Ruth Ann Moss of Milton, FL; sister Betty Jo Roth of Manchester, MO; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Boyd Dewayne Simpkins; two brothers: Thurman Glynn “Peck” Cope and Daniel Jesse Cope, Jr.; and grandson Christopher Parks. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral at 12 noon at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, MO, with Pastor Joshua Yates of Fruitland Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in the Lightner Cemetery in Scott City, MO. Pallbearers will be Shannon Novak, Troy Johnson, Michael Shuffit, Joe Roth, Rick Roth, and Jim Roth.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made in Doris’s memory to the Fruitland Church of Christ.
