Doris Mae (Sommerer) Propst, age 90, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away October 16, 2022 at Villa Marie Nursing Facility.
Doris was born July 6, 1932, a daughter to Herman Christopher Johann and Edith Kathryn (Raithel) Sommerer at St. Marys Hospital in Cole County. After the passing of her parents when she was 11, she and her brother, Ralph, went to live with her Uncle Edward and Aunt Edna Sommerer and her cousins who were like her brothers and sisters.
A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, she attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School, two years at Cole R-V High School in Eugene, MO, and then graduated from Jefferson City High School.
She was married August 20, 1950, to Kenneth Oliver Andrew Propst. They celebrated 65 years of marriage. Doris and Kenneth purchased a farm in the Honey Creek Area on their first anniversary and called it Hill Vu Farms where she worked hard with her husband, children, and grandchildren. This farm supplied eggs to local hospitals, restaurants, and grocery stores and grade A milk to large dairy companies including Central Dairy. This farm is one of the last family operated dairy farms left in the Cole County area.
Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. When not taking care of her family or working in her home, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, dancing, camping with her family, reading, taking care of her flowerbeds, embroidery work, and quilting. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Ladies Guild there (LWML) as well as Lutherans For Life, even attending a National March for Life in Washington, DC one year. She also volunteered at Calvary's Gift Shop in her later years. She will be so missed by her family, and they praise God for her example of faith.
Survivors include: three sons, Richard W. Propst, Jeffrey (Gayla) Propst and Gregory (Sandra) Propst, all of Jefferson City, MO; four daughters, Brenda (Paul) Rathmann and Lisa Binkley, both of Jefferson City, MO, Ramona (Brad) Hagerman, Henley, MO, and Annette (Landon) Oxley of Holts Summit, MO.; she also has sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann Propst, Leroy and Margie Propst, and Lolly Sommerer all of Jefferson City, MO; and cousins, Lucille (John) Williamson of El Paso, TX, and Carolyn (Fred) Hammond of Lee Summit, MO.
She has 18 grandchildren: Stacy Bandelier, Angela Propst, Mandy (Deven) McDonald, Clinton (Amanda) Propst, Jessica (Adam) Williams, Nicole (Thomas) Dixon, Shawn (Lesli) Binkley, Jennifer (Brian) Hill, Blake Propst, Daron (Felicia) Williams, Anthony Hagerman, Brandon (LeAnna) Binkley, Devin (Victoria) Hagerman, Blake (Savana) Williams, Samuel (Mary Kate) Rathmann, Macy (Jake) Dill, Cole (Mary) Oxley, and Lizzie (Luke) Benke.
