Kenny McCubbin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Freeman Mortuary - Jefferson City on Feb. 5, 2026.
Kenneth Norman McCubbin, Sr., age 75, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital.

He was born on November 3, 1950, at the family home in Miller County to the late Norman Herbert and Ida Elizabeth (Doerhoff) McCubbin. He was married on September 25, 2019, in Cole County to Jean M. Mushrush who survives in the home.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Kenny was a 1969 graduate of Cole RV High School in Eugene and went on to pursue a degree in automotive engineering from Linn Tech.

Kenny's work ethic was unmatched-he contributed to the Laborers Local 662 union as a builder in construction, yet his entrepreneurial spirit led him to wear many hats. He owned McCubbin Excavating, ran the beloved Dairy Snack Diner, sold camper shells, and drove both school buses and fuel trucks. From his early days helping at his parents' service station to building his own businesses, Kenny's industrious nature was evident in all he did.

Kenny loved the great outdoors-he found joy in camping, fishing, NASCAR races, and traveling to places like Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Truman Lake. A master gardener, he cultivated vegetables and flowers, canning produce and sharing his love for home-cooked meals. His skilled hands built not just furniture but entire homes, each piece crafted with care. Known for hosting fish fries, attending auctions, woodworking, trying his luck at the casino, and making Christmas cookies with his grandkids, Kenny embodied tradition, humor, and warmth. A proud member of the Brazito-Honey Creek Lions Club, Kenny's legacy is one of integrity, resilience, and love, deeply felt by all who knew him.

Survivors include: his wife, Jean McCubbin of Jefferson City, Mo.; his children, Kenneth McCubbin, Jr. of Jefferson City, Mo., Michelle Taylor of California, Mo., Derek Redel (Katy) of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Ryan Redel of Jersey City, New Jersey, Samantha Mebruer (Brandon) of Rich Fountain, Mo., and Kelli Malki (Yassine) of Jefferson City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Devin and Alanna McCubbin, Winter Vaught, Zella and Zander Redel, Sebastian Terry, Zaynab Malki, and Royce, Charlotte, Will, Eli, and Aurora Mebruer; one great granddaughter, Elizabeth McCubbin; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and many other extended family members.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2026, at Freeman Mortuary.

Graveside services and interment will be held following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2026, at Hickory Hill Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Hickory Hill Community Cemetery c/o Mike Hahn, 7209 Quail Rd., Eugene, MO 65032.

Ron and I knew Kenny since 1989. Ron worked closely with him and his father Norman. Ron did many jobs on the farm and continued helping out after Norman had passed and Kenny took over. Kenny will be missed by all; he knew many friends and helped many over the years. Rest in peace Kenny.
