Doris Rossi Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scott Funeral Home - Alvin on May 15, 2025.
Doris Mae Rossi died peacefully in her home on Saturday, May 10. She was 94 years old. Doris was born in Whiting, Indiana, the fifth of five children born to Croatian immigrant parents. As a child she moved with her family to neighboring Chicago, Illinois, where she completed her schooling. After graduation she worked as a secretary for Standard Oil of Indiana in downtown Chicago. It would be there that she would meet her future husband at a VFW dance, learning on their first date that they both worked for the same company in the same building. Doris and Henry Rossi were married in 1954, and had a beautiful and loving marriage for over 65 years, until the death of Henry in 2020.
The Rossi family moved to Alvin, Texas in 1969 when Henry was appointed HR Director at the new Amoco Chemical Plant at Chocolate Bayou. As the mother of five children, Doris had more than a full-time job taking care of her family and her home. Her family was her life, her joy and her passion. Her greatest joys were having her family in her home and supporting all their many and varied activities. Her children's friends were always welcomed at the Rossi house and looked forward to family events, like homemade pizza on Christmas Eve. Anyone who did not have a place to go for a holiday found a seat at the Rossi table. After she had raised her children, she focused her loving attention on her grandchildren. She would travel the country to attend a religious, school or sporting event for any of her grandchildren. They all knew of her love and pride.
Doris was not an adventurous person, although she never met a cruise she did not enjoy and a quick trip to a casino was not unwelcomed. Doris and Henry were amazing ballroom dancers and, for many years, enjoyed dinners and dancing with their friends.
Doris and Henry were members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and were involved in the parish for many years until age and illness restricted their activities.
Doris is survived by her loving and grateful family: Her children Lynn (Peter) Scott, Debra (Leo) Hampton, Msgr. Frank Rossi, Laura (John) Duston, and Karen (Eric) Edson. Her 12 grandchildren, and her 9 greatgrandchildren, with two more on the way, and more yet to come.
A Funeral Mass with the family will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Alvin, with internment at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Dickinson.

Doris is now out of pain and lovingly reunited with Hank where God has welcomed her with open arms. May you all be healed by wonderful memories of her.

Doris was sent by God to remind me how to behave, especially as a priest. I welcomed her reprimand because it was usually followed by "What would your mother think?" I'm grateful to Frank who made me feel like part of the family for years. Usually at CYO events our parents would sit together to catch up on what was happening with our adventures in the seminary and beyond. This past weekend my mother asked how Frank's mother was doing and told me that she was praying for her and the family. Eternal rest grant unto Doris O Lord!

I can picture the joy when Doris and Henry were reunited in the presence of God. My heart breaks for her children and their children, though, as they begin a new chapter without her loving presence, and I wish peace for you all. She was a remarkable person, and she will be missed.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let Your eternal divine light shine upon her and in her. May Doris be united with You, O Lord, resting in the peace that only You can give. Amen.
My sincere condolences to all the family. Fr. Paul E. Lockey
