Doris Snedeker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City on Oct. 21, 2025.
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Doris Snedeker affectionately known as
"MawMaw"; passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with cancer. She faced her illness with grace, strength, and
unwavering love for her family.
Born in Cameron, Texas, on September 2, 1941, Doris was the second oldest of four
daughters born to Alfred "Ike" and Dorothea "Boot" Hasselman. She grew up
surrounded by the love of her close-knit family and carried that love into every chapter
of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim "Big Jim" Snedeker, the love
of her life; and her older sister, Helen Donaho.
Doris began her career at Southwestern Bell, and in 1960, she married the love of her
life, Jim "Big Jim" Snedeker. They shared 56 wonderful years before his passing in
2016. Their son, Jimmy Jr., was born in 1963, followed by their daughter, Kathy, in
1966. After their children were born, Doris chose to stay home and pour her heart into
motherhood. Later, she ran the office at Apex Service Company, the business she and
Big Jim built together. After Apex was sold, she continued working at the Marriott, where
her warmth touched even more lives. When Big Jim's health declined, she stepped
away from work again to care for him with the same love and dedication she gave to her
family every day.
Doris is survived by her children, Jimmy Snedeker (Mitzi) and Kathy Barefield (Todd);
her six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and her two younger sisters, Darlene
Hernandez and Jeannette Swan.
She was "MawMaw" to many, whether by blood or by love. She was known for her
generous spirit, her quiet strength, and the way she made a house feel like home. She
especially loved canning, and her homemade pickles and famous salsa were family
treasures stocked in every pantry and shared with joy. Her kitchen was always busy,
and her heart was always full.
Doris leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and simple joys. We will miss her deeply,
remember her fondly, and carry her memory in everything we do.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at
