Doris Elaine Stewart, 80, of Athens, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Elaine faithfully volunteered with the McMinn County Election Commission for more than 50 years. If you ever voted in McMinn County, chances are you were greeted by Mrs. Elaine, whose dedication and friendly presence touched countless lives. She loved spending time outdoors, especially tending to her garden.
Above all, Elaine cherished her family and took great pride in each of them. She was a devoted member of New Zion Baptist Church of Athens and had a deep love for the Lord. Elaine will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Preceded in death by her infant son, Stephen David Stewart; parents, Richard and Madge Williams; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Max Stewart; sons, Michael (Suzan) Stewart and Scott (Melissa) Stewart; grandchildren, Stephen Stewart, Callie Stewart, Will (Amanda) Stewart, Chelsie (Michael) Six; great grandchildren, Rya Stewart, Oakland Stewart, Abella Six; brother, Dale (Carol) Key; and many other loved family and friends.
A Visitation will be held at New Zion Baptist Church in Athens on January 29th from 2:00pm-3:00pm. A Graveside Service will be held directly after at New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Brandon Wilcox officiating. Pallbearers will be Brad Stewart, West Stewart, Jim Williams, Russell Coleman, Will Stewart, and Michael Six.
