Doris Stigler was born April 6, 1947, the second of seven children born to George and Arnia Mae (Russell) Stigler. Growing up on the west side of Chicago, Doris longed for adventure and travel.

After graduating from Crane High school in January 1965 and a semester at Wilson Jr. College, she joined VISTA the domestic Peace Corp. Her first year of service was in Philadelphia, Pa. working for the Opportunities Industrialization Center under Rev. Leon Sullivan. Her second year of service was in St. Croix, US, Virgin Island where she and other volunteers ran a preschool center. During her stay in St. Croix Doris met and married Patrick J. Brumant a native of Antigua, BWI. Doris left VISTA to begin her married life.

In October 1967 Doris gave birth to the first of her two sons Steven Mark Brumant. The family returned to Chicago in April 1968. Doris began her healthcare career first as a nurse's aide and in 1970 as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital on Chicago's west side. Doris gave birth to a second son Phillip George Brumant in September 1973. Doris continued her education by entering the Associate Degree program at Triton College in River Grove, Ill. She graduated in 1978 and successfully passed the state board exam and became a Registered Nurse.

She continued her education by obtaining her Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois in 1981 and her Master's Degree from Roosevelt University in 1988. Doris continued her nursing career at Mount Sinai moving up the ladder to Assistant Vice President of Nursing. In 1988, she moved to Mount Vernon Illinois with Phillip and took a position as Director of Educational Services at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.

Two years later she returned to the Chicago area. Working in multiple fields of healthcare Doris was devoted to her profession. Illness struck her in November of 2008 which caused early retirement and the need for dialysis.

Doris leaves her sons Steven (Donna); Phillip (Rosalind) her brother Ronald, many nieces and nephews and loving friends
