Doris Stuehler Obituary

Doris Elveta Cook Stuehler, 99, passed away on December 19, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. Her family had hoped to celebrate her 100th birthday January 19th of this year.

Born and raised in Salido, Independence County, Arkansas, Doris moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 18. She worked in sales at Woolworth's Drug Store before becoming a bookkeeper at First National Bank, where she met her future husband, Charles. They married, moved to Abilene, and raised three daughters. Charles preceded her in death in October 2009.

Doris lived in Kingsland, Texas for 59 years. A woman of deep faith, she enjoyed daily Bible study and was active in her church community. She was an avid bowler, participating on a team until age 94, and was a talented seamstress who also knitted, crocheted, and quilted. With a group of women from Kingsland Community Church, she helped create baby quilts and blankets for women in need. She also crafted all the choir robes and neck scarves for the children's choir at the family's Lutheran church in Abilene, Texas. Her daughters fondly remember choosing fabrics for the clothing she lovingly made for them. Doris enjoyed gardening, tending plants and flowers, and bringing nature indoors. She loved working on 1,000-piece puzzles and spending many peaceful hours on her patio watching the boats and skiers pass by. "Our little angel on earth".

Doris is survived by her daughters Pam (Bill) Horstman of Franklin, Texas; Pat Anders of Kingsland, Texas, and Kay (Steve) Belden of Spring, Texas; her grandchildren Nikki (Casey) Prochazka of Franklin, Texas; Stephanie (Tom) Hughes of Spring, Texas; and, Chase (Natalia) Belden of Conroe, Texas.; great grandchildren Will, Bryn, and Ally Prochazka of Franklin, Texas; and Troy and Max Belden of Conroe, Texas. She is also survived by her brother Tommy (Linda) Cook and their sons, Jeff, Travis, and Bryan of Wilsonville, Oregon. She is preceded in death by her father, Leroy Elvin Cook; mother, Evelyne Essie Trammell Cook; stepmother, Minnie Mae Langford Cook; brother, Willie Winford Cook; son in law, Bill Anderson; and grandson, Scott Anderson.

There will be a graveside service at 10:00 am on January 10, 2026, and immediately following a Celebration of Life at Kingsland Community Church in Kingsland.
